MSc Wine Appreciation Workshop on 1 March 2019

The HKUST MSc Programs strive to provide diversified business education to students. We identified business etiquette as an integral part of business education and wine culture, as an important pillar of business etiquette.

60 students and staff members from the MSc in Global Operations, Information Systems Management, International Management and Investment Management programs have gathered to attend a wine appreciation workshop in the evening of 1 March 2019 (Friday). Our HKUST Business School’s very own BBA alumnus, Mr. Denman Chan, was invited to share with our current MSc students the beauty of wine.

During the workshop, Denman shared with the participants on how they could identify, order, appreciate and socialize over wine. The workshop reached climax when students volunteered to open sparkling wines with Denman’s tips. Students have tasted and evaluated the 5 wines in turns, from champagne, white wines to red wines, with the wine tasting grid on Sweetness, Acidity, Alcohol, Intensity and Finish. Students exchanged their opinions and preferences with each other, helping each other to become mini-wine-experts.

The workshop ended with useful advices on food and wine pairing, and responsible drinking. Students all expressed great enjoyment at this workshop and stayed behind at the mingling session to learn more from Denman.

Our speaker Denman is currently the Trade Marketing Director in P&G Taiwan. He is a wine connoisseur, educator and judge with WSET Level 4 Diploma qualification from Wine & Spirit Education Trust and French Wine Scholar Qualification. We deeply appreciate Denman’s effort in making this workshop a big success!
